The Lord Somers Camp and Power House Quarterly Connections Lunch was held on June 6th, 2018 in the William Angliss Restaurant. A team of students studying the Diploma of Event Management organized and ran the event. The team, Rel-Events, worked with Angelina, the Reservations Manager of the restaurant on behalf of the organization to plan the event and also worked in collaboration with the Diploma of Hospitality Management students who did an exceptional job serving and waiting on the guests. The 2018 Career Practitioner’s Day was held on Friday the 11th of May at William Angliss Institute. It was run by a team of Event Management Diploma Students, Elite Events. Elite Events partnered up with the Marketing and Schools Liaison Officer, Anna- Liza Shepherd to organise the event.
Many successful graduates from Advanced Diploma + Diploma of Event Management attended the event including RACV Club winners Shelby Arestia + Olivia Hannan, Loridana Montalto + Emma Heddin from Peter Jones Special Events, Marine Goubaux + Gabrialle Stancescu from Leonda by the Yarra, and Monica Juric from Epicure.
Events teacher and Placement Coordinator Julie Rayner, and Program Leader Events Corinne Maxfield enjoyed catching up with graduates re their progress in the events industry.
Stage 1 Event Industry students had a visit to the Formula One Grand Prix and had access to the Driver Learning Education Program. This was a precinct within the Grand Prix where students could learn about new technologies and advancements in the area of Formula One. It was very hands on and interactive. We also had a PR Consultant talk to us about what is involved with staging an event of this nature and the importance of risk management in events.
The 2017 William Angliss Foundation Golf Day was held on the 22nd of November at the Medway Golf Club in Maidston. The event management team, Birdie Events, worked closely with Stuart Walsh and Anne Kavenagh to plan the day.
The 3 key objectives were to strengthen the relationships with key suppliers, to create a William Angliss Institute branded and promoted event, and for guests to network and share business experiences.
The WAI Golf day began early with a tasty breakfast BBQ provided by William Angliss chefs. The coffee cart provided by the WAI Coffee Academy, was a big hit, & kick-started the players. Throughout the day the WAI food and beverage station served coffee, cold refreshments and snacks.. We also had a gelato station which had an amazing choice of flavours and a highlight in the 35 degree heat.
Overall it was a successful day, with lots of food, interaction, relationship building and most importantly, fundraising for the William Angliss Institute Foundation.
The Diploma of Event Management team from Inspired Event Co. at William Angliss Institute Jess, Alyssa, Georgie and Emerald had the pleasure of hosting a Halloween Celebration for families at The Ronald McDonald House Monash in Clayton. The team worked closely with the client Annalese Fowler – Fundraising Coordinator at Ronald McDonald House Monash to provide an enjoyable night for families to celebrate Halloween. Attendees included families staying at the house who have a sick child currently being treated at The Monash Children’s Hospital along with staff members at the house.
The Halloween theme was created through fantastic room styling and children’s activities run by the Inspired Event Co. team. The food which included a fabulous BBQ and Build Your Own Burger Bar was served in a buffet style to create a relaxed atmosphere where guests had the opportunity to interact with one another.
Bill’s Walk For Brain Cancer took place on the 12th of November 2017 at The Tan Track, Kings Domain and Botanic Gardens. It was a walkathon for the Bill Tingate Brain Cancer Foundation and overall was a great success, meeting all their aims and fundraising objectives. The day was filled with laughter, stories and walking.
The organising team was SWH Events, consisting of Jessica, Abbie, Gabe and Natalie from stage 2 in the Diploma of Event Management.
On the Thursday the 2nd of November, Star Light Events (stage 1 event management students) held the annual Patisserie High Tea on behalf of our clients, Susan Carey and Angela Tsimikitis. It was held in the Angliss Restaurant from 3 to 5pm. We were lucky enough to have all of our functions event management students to assist us on the day, which assisted the day to run smoothly.
The Patisserie High Tea is an annual event to showcase and display their work. All of the buffet items that were available were made by the students and teachers. There were over 25 different sweets from Toffee Apples to Banana and Caramel Eclairs.
The Theme of our Events was ‘It’s a little bit Fruity’ so we styled our event with lots of fresh fruit and greenery. The bright colours and strong aroma drew the guests into the room. Each table had a specific fruit allocated to it, as well as a range of different seasonal fruits at the bottom.
We started the Tea, with canapés and welcome drinks in the foyer, they then headed into the restaurant where they were greeted by the Front of House staff. Once seated the guests sipped on warm Tea and Coffee and gradually got up to select which sweets they desired. Many of the guests went back for seconds and thirds as the sweets were incredible.
Overall it was a very successful Event and we thoroughly enjoyed organising and running it and working along Susan and Angela. We are grateful to William Angliss and all of the Students and Teachers who helped us make our first event such a success.

On the 18th of October 2017 Captivators events stage 1 Diploma of Event Management students, held the National Nutritional Week Lunch. This was part of our functions subject on behalf of Jan Watson our client. The lunch was held at the Angliss restaurant 555 Latrobe street Melbourne beginning at 12pm. On the day of the function we were extremely lucky to have Judy as our Operational teacher and her hospitality team to assist us on the day as the FOH team to serve food and set up the room.
National Nutritional Week’s theme this year was try for 5 meaning try and add more vegetables into your daily diet. To show how easy it is to add more vegetables to meal was shown through the entrée and main for the day. By taking a standard Angliss food package, we were able to discuss with the chef to add the more vegetables without changing the overall feel to the food being served. Which was done successfully and at the end of the function many people commenting on the food.
Our Sponsor for the day was VIC Strawberries who donated strawberries to be placed on the table for the customers to eat between meals. We also had strawberries to create a complimentary mocktail for guest to enjoy before their desserts were served. Vic strawberries also provided a book mark and a recipe to place on the table to provide more information about themselves and what they could create with strawberries.
We would like to say a big thank-you to the farmers and growers of VIC Strawberries for supporting the students with their new season produce.
The Royal Australian Regiment Association held its annual dinner in the William Angliss restaurant for its fourth year running on Wednesday the 15th of November 2017.
In a gathering that brings together those who may not have a strong sense of family and support coming home from wars fought.
Eighty two of the members sat down for a two course dinner surrounded by styling of an Australian native theme of Coin Gum and Jyp, styled by Emma.
Stage One Diploma of Event Management students demonstrated their newly found knowledge of event planning skills for the functions subject. A successful function which involved client meeting, planning, styling and front of house coordination.
Students will continue to build on these event management skills and benefit from this experience.
