On Saturday the 1st of June 2019, Uniting AgeWell Strathdon held their annual jazz themed luncheon. The Aurora Events team, consisting of five Stage 2 Diploma of Event Management students were fortunate enough to help organise and run the luncheon.
We had a fantastic turn out on the day with over 90 age care residents and their family and friends attending.
The theme of the luncheon was Mardi Gras at Strathdon. Mardi Gras is a jazz parade that takes place in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. Tables were styled with luxurious purple and gold satin runners, candelabras topped with purple masquerade masks and cascading ribbon. The entire room was transformed into a vibrant New Orleans street party scene.
The luncheon consisted of 2 courses, main and dessert. The main meals were a delicious pulled beef deconstructed slider with coleslaw, or a chicken, bacon and leek frittata on a bed of couscous salad. The dessert was a divine sticky date pudding or a chocolate fondant.
What would a jazz luncheon be without a jazz band? The talented Blue Tone Jazz Band provided fantastic entertainment throughout the afternoon. It was great to see attendees singing and clapping on to all the jazz hits. Guests were also treated to a special performance by singer, Kathy Lang, accompanied by Matt Daley on guitar.
We want to say a big thank you to all our generous sponsors, and Kathy for her constant guidance and support.
